Lycanthropy 13/10/2026
There is a bit of a disconnect in some of my research for this show.
The pieces aren't very neat at the moment, which might not necessarily be a problem in the long run, but currently it feels like I'm trying to smash some different puzzle pieces together that are veeeeery similar, but not quite there.
The first piece is the story of the Dogxim, the matter of her existence and the repurcussions that has for our understanding of genetics, and of climate collapse.
The second is the concept of the embodied experience that I would like to create for the public, the transposition of the sensory experience of another species.
Then there is the element of animism, of shape shifting, of fluidity between the human and non human realm.
The key to this selection of disparate pieces has probably got something to do with why I am interested in them in the first place. OBVIOUSLY Lizzy- as in the great piece of cinema Kung Fu Panda- the answer to what you seek is infact your own face in the mirror wrapped up inside the ancient scroll. I think the instinct to delve into these areas of thinking, playing and making comes from my own tension between wildness and domesticity. Humanity's dual nature as both "beast" and "intelligent being"- (not my own words), and somehow wanting to traverse this divide. Shape shifting, warewolves, transformation are somehow bound up with this tale.
Dogxim being the enigmatic almost mythical creature biologically representative of the domestic and wild realms combined, a symbol of an in between state, a fusion.
This has bought my to Lycanthropy- the transformation of a human into a wolf, or Zoanthropy- the transformation of humans into other animals.
The natural question to follow ofcourse is; how does one do such a thing?
